Those who know or work with anyone with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia can attest to the difficult and painful times the memory loss brings. Certainly it must be beyond difficult to care for someone who you have loved your entire life and they do not even recognize you anymore.
Perhaps this is why this video has become so popular. In a moment of clarity, this Mom recognizes her daughter and says her name, Kelly. She then says she loves Kelly. The look on Kelly's face is priceless. We wish them both the best and give our continued hope a cure for all forms of dementia can be found soon.

Robin Williams, Picture Button Phones, and Vitamin D . . .
It was with sadness we witnessed the news of the passing of Robin Williams. It seems most people felt they knew the funny man through his movies. The sad part of all this is the fact that this hilarious man had so much internal pain and grief. He seemed to have voids created by his sadness, but perhaps he lived, filled those voids, and became happy by making others laugh. Though his passing is very sad, there is some consolation in the knowledge that he lived a part of his laugh in order to make others happy. There is a lesson we can learn from this sad event; we must do all we can to live for others, but also take care to make sure we get any help we may need. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I was perusing many of the picture button phones on the market and I had some thoughts. First off, it is good that there are more and more of these phone coming on the market. There is a great need for them. Another thought was, of course, I believe we have the best version that fits all the criteria our customers need. For example, among many other benefits, the FotoDialer: will not lose your numbers if the power goes out, the pictures are much larger on FotoDialer, many more numbers can be programmed in, it has Pause Dialing (programming in pauses into a sequence of numbers), it is mobile (can be connected to different analog phone lines), you don't need to use a computer to set things up, it is simple and durable, and it costs less than most other options.
An article I read recently said lower levels of Vitamin D may contribute to a higher risk of getting Alzheimer's disease of other forms of dementia. So, get some sun, eat healthy, and make sure you get the vitamins and minerals your body and mind need! The article can be read HERE.

Suggestions to Reduce the Risk for Dementia
I saw a good article the other day detailing five ways to reduce the risk for dementia. Click here to see the article. The article gives ideas all of us can use to prevent having forms of dementia when we get older. Though these ideas are not surefire actions to prevent getting Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, they do seem to be great aids in prevention. So, on to their list:
1) Solve a Crossword. Brain stimulation builds brain cells and connections in the brain.
2) Play an instrument. The article suggests learning to play early on in life pays off when you are older.
3) Break a Sweat. Raising your heart rate and breathing harder can reduce dementia risk later on. Exercise can also slow dementia if someone already has it.
4) (My favorite) Phone a Friend. Being social can keep your brain young and active. So, get your FotoDialer to phone your friends and family to plan activities.
5) Order the Salmon. Fish has been called, "brain food" in the past and for good reason. To quote the article, "Brain scans showed that people who ate baked or broiled—but not fried—fish at least once a week had better preserved gray matter in key areas of the brain. The researchers calculated that eating fish weekly cut Alzheimer’s risk by almost five-fold."
Hopefully doing these five things can be what it takes to reduce our risks for dementia. And remember to get your FotoDialer based on tip number 4, "Phone a Friend."

Three year old calls 911
I love this story! A three year old Nevada girl was taught by her Mom how to call 911 one morning. Later that day she got to put that lesson into practice when her Mom had a seizure and fell on the ground. She helped save her Mom's life by calling 911. Oddly enough, her Dad is on the Fire and Rescue service and responded to the call. It is comforting to see young children's capabilities to act beyond their youthful ability.
Over the years, I have heard stories such as this where a young child actually saves their parent's life by calling 911 for help in an emergency. These kids are extraordinary and uncommon. It makes you wonder how many young children are on the other side of the spectrum and are unable to call 911 in an emergency because they simply do not know how to. Or, how many people (the elderly especially) are so full of adrenaline or pain that they cannot manage dialing an emergency number? Are there many of these people?

Or, how many people (the elderly especially) are so full of adrenaline or pain that they cannot manage dialing an emergency number? Are there many of these people?
This is one of the main reasons FotoDialer was developed. There is no way a small child or elderly person cannot dial
emergency help when all they need to do is press an emergency button on their FotoDialer. There is no need to remember sequences of numbers. It may sound silly or even absurd to think someone may not be able to dial such an easy number as 911. There are even jokes that underscore the perceived ridiculousness of forgetting this number like, "quick, what's the number to 911?" Jokes aside, thinking is not clear when a child or an elderly person (particularly those with any form of dementia) is running on adrenaline or is full of pain in an emergency. Chemicals rush into the brain for the sole purpose of keeping someone alive; rational thinking tends to go out the door.
It is a comfort for people to know that family members can call for emergency help if needed by simply pushing a button next to a wallet-sized photograph. I will continue to love seeing heroic acts done by the uncommon youngster on behalf of their family, but wouldn't it be great if all children could have the ability to call for help in an emergency?
